Billy's  Creek  Cleanup!

Billy's Creek is a creek in Fort Myers, Florida. It is a tributary of the Caloosahatchee River and contains mangrove vegetation. The creek was named after the Seminole chief Billy Bowlegs who was forced to surrender there by United States forces in 1858. Billy's Creek has its beginnings as meandering water from a canal and is unique in that it is a scenic urban waterway and part of the Calusa Blueway. Joint efforts to improve water quality from various government agencies allowed the construction of the Billy  Creek Filter Marsh and adjacent nature park.

A clean neighborhood is a healthy neighborhood!

Billy Creek Filter Marsh Preserve was designed to filter water from the creek before it flows into the Caloosahatchee River. The Caloosahatchee River is in the top 10 most endangered rivers in the United States.

Therefore, we must work to keep the area clean of trash and debris so the water that enters the Caloosahatchee River is not contaminated.

Not only is this a reason for concern, but Billy Bowlegs Park is a place for children and their families to spend time together. The children need to have a clean and safe place to play.

We can maximaize our cleanup efforts with your service!

and build community awareness

The Goals and Objectives of Riverwatch are:
-To strive to improve the River from its source to its mouth, including its impacts on riparian and estuarine systems, wildlife habitat, and marine life.
-To promote public education concerning the historical significance, present condition, and future of the River and its watershed.
-To increase public awareness of the importance of the River to our quality of life.
-To study the effect of domestic, commercial, and agricultural uses of the River's resources.
-To monitor and work to improve the River's water quality, quantity, and flow characteristics.
-To observe and participate in the activities of public bodies responsible for the management of the River and its watershed.

The Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program is a partnership that protects the estuaries from Venice to Estero Bay. This partnership gives citizens, elected officials, resource managers, and commercial and recreational resource users in the 4,700-square-mile study area a voice to address diverse resource management concerns, including fish and wildlife habitat loss, water quality and water flow. The watershed in the study area includes all or portions of Lee, Charlotte, Sarasota, Manatee, Polk, Hardee and DeSoto counties.
